La Fondazione, in collaborazione con il Comune di Triggiano (BA) e la Regione Puglia, concorre alla Manifestazione “Capaci di legalità 2023” presentando la Mostra fotografica diffusa Nûr/Luce/نور dell’artista di fama internazionale Maimouna Guerresi.
L’importante successo in termini di visibilità, partecipazione e riflessione, della mostra “Tony Gentile – Memoria senza indulgenza”, a cura di Manuela De Leonardis, realizzata nel 2022 in occasione del trentennale delle stragi mafiose di Capaci e via D’Amelio, non solo alimenta il nostro entusiasmo ma sostiene la nostra ambizione di trasformare i vicoli e le piazze del centro cittadino di Triggiano (BA) in una galleria d’arte contemporanea a cielo aperto.
Protagonista dell’edizione 2023 è l’artista italo-senegalese Maimouna Guerresi.
I rapporti tra l’artista e la Fondazione non sono nuovi: nel 2019 la Fondazione Pasquale Battista, in collaborazione con la Casa de Cultura Les Bernardes di Girona (Barcellona, ES) ha realizzato una mostra personale nella Diputacio de Girona, con la curatela di Manuela De Leonardis e Laura Cornejo Brugues, dal titolo “Aisha in Wonderland/Aisha al Pais de les meravelles”. In occasione dell’esposizione, la Fondazione ha promosso e finanziato la pubblicazione del catalogo omonimo in spagnolo/inglese/italiano/catalano con la prestigiosa casa editrice Silvana Editoriale (ed. 2019). Sempre nel 2019, la Fondazione finanza la pubblicazione del volume italiano/inglese “Il sangue delle donne. Tracce di rosso sul panno bianco” (ed.Postamediabooks), al cui interno è ospitata un’opera toccante dell’artista contro il tabù mestruale.
Maïmouna Guerresi è un’artista italo-senegalese che declina la sua pratica attraverso la fotografia, la scultura, il video e l’installazione. Utilizzando linguaggi multimediali, l’artista offre un delicato sguardo sulla sfera spirituale degli esseri umani e propone un’intima lettura sulla dimensione mistica del loro vivere.
Le immagini di Guerresi, sospese tra l’onirico e il reale, diventano apprezzamento di un’umanità condivisa, la cui comunione si estende oltre i confini geografici e culturali.
Nelle sue molteplici espressioni creative, Guerresi figura le questioni del vivere quotidiano recuperando spesso metafore visuali: latte, luce, segni calligrafici, alberi, hijab. Simboli, ispirati dalla pratica sufista dell’artista, che traducono l’iridescenza dell’interiorità umana. Ricorre nei lavori di Guerresi il racconto del mondo femminile nero musulmano, un racconto che si fa sguardo sulla forza, regalità e bellezza delle donne musulmane africane, donne il cui apporto culturale è stato spesso dimenticato dalle società.
Nelle opere, come si apprezza nella serie “Giganti,” i corpi di queste protagoniste assumono forme statutarie, e diventano custodi di un’infinità che racchiude un mistero mistico e cosmogonico. Attraverso riferimenti alla propria doppia appartenenza, talora presentata in modo figurato, Guerresi propone l’idea di una identità interiore mista come passo necessario del pensiero e del vivere umano. I significati delle opere artistiche di Maimouna diventano uno strumento per poter declinare il concetto di “legalità” e di “anti-mafia sociale” come processo di dialogo interculturale e interreligioso per la pace tra i popoli e le comunità.
Nel suo contributo critico al Libro “Aisha in Wonderland/Aisha al Pais de les meravelles”, la curatrice De Leonardis scrive: “Integrazione, tolleranza, apertura e rispetto delle diversità sono aspetti complementari della conoscenza, argomenti di una dialettica che, nelle opere di Guerresi, non sono solo parole sussurrate dai corpi ammantati” (p.76). Accogliendo la volontà dell’Amministrazione comunale di Triggiano (BA) di promuovere, attraverso manifestazioni artistiche, una riflessione partecipata su questi temi, la mostra diffusa Nûr/Luce/نور si pone la finalità di “portare” i temi dell’identità e dell’alterità direttamente nel cuore cittadino, nelle vie e nelle piazze, tra le case e la gente. “Le opere dell’artista Maimouna Guerresi – scrive la direttrice della Fondazione nella prefazione al libro – sembrano invitarci a riconsiderare la relazione (ostile, asimmetrica, ripudiante o assimilativa) tra “soggettività” e “alterità” a favore di uno scenario armonico nel quale corpi, divinità, oggetti, piante, case raccontano la possibilità di co-esistere fuori da logiche di terrore, sfruttamento e dominio” (p.70). Attraverso una riattualizzazione iconografica dei simboli islamici e l’ibridazione con la cultura artistica occidentale, Maïmouna Guerresi collega arte, spiritualità e vita.
La sua opera è un viaggio verso un universo interiore e nascosto che è anche il pretesto per rappresentare stati d’animo e riflessioni esistenziali in una continua ricerca di se stessi, di una nuova identità in pace ed armonia con le identità altrui.
The Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Triggiano (BA) and the Apulia Region, contributes to the event “Capaci di legalità 2023” the multi-site photo exhibition Nûr/Luce/نور of the artist international renown Maimouna Guerresi.
The important success in terms of visibility, participation, and reflection, of the event “Tony Gentile – Memory without indulgence“, curated by Manuela De Leonardis, realized in 2022 for the thirtieth anniversary of the mafia massacres of Capaci and Via D’Amelio, not only feeds our enthusiasm but supports our ambition to transform the alleys and squares of the city center of Triggiano (BA) into an open-air contemporary art gallery.
The protagonist of the 2023 edition is the Italian-Senegalese artist Maimouna Guerresi. The relationship between the artist and the Foundation is not new: in 2019 the Pasquale Battista Foundation, in cooperation with the Casa de Cultura Les Bernardes of Girona (Barcelona, ES) realized a solo exhibition in the Diputacio de Girona, with the curatorship of Manuela De Leonardis and Laura Cornejo Brugues, entitled “Aisha in Wonderland / Aisha al Pais de les meravelles“. Specifically for the exhibition, the Foundation promoted and financed the publication of the homonymous catalogue in Spanish/English/Italian/Catalan with the prestigious publishing house Silvana Editoriale (ed. 2019). Also in 2019, the Foundation contributes to the publication of the Italian/English book “The blood of the women. Traces of red on the white cloth” (ed. Postamediabooks), inside which is presented a touching work by the artist against the menstrual taboo.
Maïmouna Guerresi is an Italian-Senegalese artist who declines her practice through photography, sculpture, video and installation. Using multimedia languages, the artist offers a delicate look at the spiritual sphere of human beings and proposes an intimate reading on the mystical dimension of their life. Guerresi’s images, suspended between the dreamlike and the real, become an appreciation of a shared humanity, whose communion extends beyond geographical and cultural boundaries. In her many creative expressions, Guerresi represents the issues of everyday life, often recovering visual metaphors: milk, light, calligraphic signs, trees, hijabs. Symbols, inspired by the artist’s Sufi practice, which translate the iridescence of human interiority. The story of the black Muslim female world recurs in Guerresi’s works, a story that looks at the strength, royalty and beauty of African Muslim women, women whose cultural contribution has often been forgotten by society.
In the works, as is appreciated in the series “Giants,” the bodies of these protagonists take on statutory forms and become guardians of an infinity that contains a mystical and cosmogonic mystery. Through references to one’s own double belonging, sometimes presented figuratively, Guerresi proposes the idea of a mixed inner identity as a necessary step of human thought and living. The meanings of Maimouna’s artistic works become a tool to decline the concept of “legality” and “social anti-mafia” as a process of intercultural and interreligious dialogue for peace between peoples and communities.
In her critical contribution to the book “Aisha in Wonderland/Aisha al Pais de les meravelles“, the curator De Leonardis writes: “Integration, tolerance, openness and respect for diversity are complementary aspects of knowledge, topics of a dialectic that, in Guerresi’s works, are not just words whispered by cloaked bodies” (p.76). Accepting the will of the municipal administration of Triggiano (BA) to promote, through artistic events, a participatory reflection on these issues, the widespread exhibition Nûr/Luce/ نور aims to “bring” the themes of identity and otherness directly into the heart of the city, in the streets and squares, between houses and people. “The works of the artist Maimouna Guerresi – writes the director of the Foundation in the preface to the book – seem to invite us to reconsider the relationship (hostile, asymmetrical, repudiating or assimilative) between “subjectivity” and “otherness” in favor of a harmonious scenario in which bodies, divinities, objects, plants, houses tell the possibility of co-existing outside the logic of terror, exploitation and domination” (p.70). Through an iconographic re-actualization of Islamic symbols and hybridization with Western artistic culture, Maïmouna Guerresi connects art, spirituality and life.
Her work is a journey towards an inner and hidden universe that is also the pretext to represent moods and existential reflections in a continuous search for oneself, for a new identity in peace and harmony with the identities of others.
